Arlo Kesterke
Arlo Howard Kesterke, 85, a lifelong resident of Dallas City, Ill., died at 2:15 a.m. Monday, March 4, 2002, at the Oak Lane Nursing and Rehab in Stronghurst, Ill.
Born Jan. 12, 1917, in Dallas City, he was the son of Conrad and Ruby Howard Kesterke. He married Hazel J. Morrill Dec. 9, 1939, in Kahoka, Mo.
He was a graduate of Dallas City High School and was a lifetime member of the Dallas City First Christian Church. He was a Navy veteran during World War II. He served on the Dallas City School Board and as an assistant Boy Scout leader and served for 40 years on the Dallas City Volunteer Fire Department.
He worked at Schaeffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison, Anguish and Wolfenbarger in Dallas City and for 40 years in the fire department at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant. After retiring, he and his wife spent 13 winters in Weslaco, Texas.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Ronald A. Kesterke of Dallas City, and Terry L. Kesterke of Burlington; three grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. today and before 1 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City.
The funeral for Mr. Kesterke will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Clark officiating. Burial will be in the Harris Cemetery near Dallas City.
A memorial has been established for the Dallas City Fire Department's Camera Imaging Fund.
