"Wife of G.W. Lyerly"
This memorial was created from a 1938 cemetery survey compiled by the WPA for the Historical Records Survey which was one of the projects of FDR's New Deal Program. The survey is part of the Family Records Collection located in the State Archives.
Additional Info: I believe this to be Mary E. Ketchie, daughter of Milus Monroe Ketchie and Margaret Sophia (House) Ketchie. According to the 1900 census for China Grove, Mary E. was born in May, 1879. I have found no other birth record for her at this time.
According to the North Carolina Marriage Index, 1741-200, pages 37 and 387, Charles W. Lyerly and Mary E Ketchie were married on January 8, 1904.
Of note, page 37 also indicates that Charles W. Lyerly married Nellie Frances Goodman on December 24, 1907, which would fit well if Mary died in 1905. In that vein, I have located a C.W. Lyerly and wife Nellie in the 1910 census for Cabarrus County in which he indicates he has been married twice, and married to Nellie for 2 years.
Also of note - It appears that Charles W. Lyerly was younger than Mary Ketchie, having been born in 1883 vs 1879, respectively. Interestingly, The Lyerly family (including "Charlie" b.1883) was living very close to Mary and her family (same census page, 1 family between them) in 1900 census for China Grove.
