From the Courier Journal, December 2, 1904:

The Hon. Fenton sims died of paralysis at 10:30 o'clock this morning at his home in Cadiz after an illness of nearly three months duration. He was stricken with paralysis in the court during a trial making a closing argument and never rallied from the fatal shock.

Fenton Sims was born in Christian County about 1835 and moved to Wallonia in Trigg County when a small boy. He attended the law school at Louisville from which he was graduated. After teaching school at several places in Trigg County, he came to Cadiz and entered into the practice of his profession and succeeded so well that he was recognized s one of the foremost lawyers in Southwestern Kentucky. He served one term in the lower house of the legislature (1865-1869) representing Trigg County and also served two terms in the Kentucky Senate.

He was a lifelong Democrat and had always worked hard for its success. He was very popular with the bar of the courts in which he practiced.

In 1867, he was married to Miss Siddie Redd, eldest daughter of Thomas B. Redd, who also served in the legislature. Two children were born: Mrs. H.B. McKinney and Harry Sims, both of Cadiz.

He was a member of the law firm Sims and Thomas in Cadiz, and Sims and Thompson in Murray.

He will be buried in the Cadiz cemetery.
