Virginia Thomas "Jinx" Anders, 90, of Bedford, passed away Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Elks National Home. Born November 2, 1921 in Franklin County; she was a daughter of the late Oscar Lemon Thomas and Averett Lera Prillaman Thomas and the widow of Robert Curtis "Curt" Anders.

Virginia was active in the Bedford community; she was a member of Bedford Elks Lodge #2844, Bedford Baptist Church, Otterburn Garden Club, Bedford Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, was an avid Bridge player and an active member of the American Cryptogram Association.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter; Nancy Anders Turner, and a son, Robert C. Anders, Jr.

She is survived by daughters, Charlotte A. McManis and husband, Kenneth of Bedford, Elizabeth "Libby" A. Berry and husband, William W. Berry, IV of Bedford; five grandchildren, Melissa Armstrong of Charlotte, NC, Brent McManis of Greenwood, SC, Catherine Berry Navarro of Falls Church, Benjamin Berry of Lynchburg, and Neal Anders of Pikeville, KY; four great-grandchildren, Matthew McManis, John McManis, Curtis Armstrong, and Ellie Armstrong; sisters, Irene T. Webster of Montvale, and Bevelyne T. Prillaman of Calloway; and a brother, Frank Thomas of Montvale.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elks National Home, Special Care Update, 931 Ashland Avenue, Bedford, VA 24523.

A celebration of Virginia's life will be held at 7 PM, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Mark Flores and Rev. Dr. David L. Henderson officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the ceremony from 6 to 7 PM. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Sunset Cemetery in Christiansburg.
