Della Mae Trent Thompson, 87, of the Garden City area of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord, at her home, on Tuesday morning, January 28, 2014. She was the widow of Edward (Ed) A. Thompson. Della was retired from the Personnel Department of the United States Forest Service and was a longtime faithful member of Garden City Baptist Church where she was a Deacon and member of the choir.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. and Willie Ferguson Trent; her sons, Gary Edward Thompson and Steven L. Thompson; and her brothers, James Loyd Trent, Joseph Allen Trent and John Louis Trent Jr.

The family would like to thank the Carilion Hospice Team and her caregivers, Wanda, Carol, Linda and Valerie, for their loving and comforting care.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in her memory to Garden City Baptist Church, 3536 Garden City Blvd., Roanoke, VA 24014.

Funeral Services celebrating Della's life will be held at noon on Thursday, January 30, 2014, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel with Pastor Jay Fields officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at Oakey's Vinton Chapel, 540-982-2221. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel, Vinton.
