Basil L. Whitaker

Basil Lee Whitaker, 72, Ewing, Mo., former Akron resident, died Saturday July 15, 1978, of an apparent heart attack at his home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Ewing Baptist church, Ewing. Rev. Virgil Graves and Rev. Scott Montgomery officiated. Burial was in the Ewing cemetery.

Mr. Whitaker was born April 27, 1906, in Durham, Mo., a son of James E. and Cora (Lemen) Whitaker. He married Sybil McCorkell in 1927 in Akron. She died in 1937. He married Helen Bugh in 1940 in Monticello.

Surviving are his wife; six daughters, Mrs. Martin (Lorraine) Crabill of Ewing, Mrs. George (Madeline) Trpkosh, of Iowa, Mrs. Edmund (Virginia) Leekley of Westfield, Mrs. Mary McIntoch, of Tennessee, Mrs. Betty Thresher, Shelbyville, and Miss Vicky Whitaker at home; nine sons, Virgil, Roger, Danny and Lavern, all of Ewing, Philip of Marshalltown, Robert of Boulder, Colo., Clifford of Dallas, Tex., John of LaGrange and Delane of Reno, Nev.,two brothers, Howard of Ewing and Ray of Springdale, ark.; 35 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two children, two brothers and a grandchild.
