Services for James C. McIver, 83, will be held 10:00 AM Friday, January 31, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in Redtown with Bro. Dennis Morgan and Bro. Charles Pyle officiating. Burial will be at Strong's Memorial Cemetery in Slocum, under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home. Mr. McIver passed away January 27, 2014 at Elkhart Oaks Center where he received excellent care for the past two years. Mr. McIver was born January 12, 1931 to Jim and Dell Elrod McIver of Palestine. After graduating from Elkhart High School, he proudly served in the Korean War from 1952-1954 as Army Corporal and jeep mechanic. After returning home from the service, he worked on the Puzzlewood Ranch, preached at Day's Chapel Congregational Methodist Church and worked in several locally-owned grocery stores before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents and three infant children. He is survived by one son, Leslie McIver of Palestine, sister, Joann Steadman of Elkhart, brother, Robert McIver and wife Joe Ann of Garland, and numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Ronny Steadman, Jim Rowe, Ryan Steadman, Clay Jordan, Landon Holland, and Raymond Dunlap. Honorary pallbearers are Vernon King, Bob Wilson and the Men's SS Class at Tabernacle Baptist where he was a faithful member.
