New Iberia – Funeral services will be conducted for Mrs. Alva Birchett, the former Jeanette Lettie Judice, 89, on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 2:00 PM at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church with Msgr. Richard Greene officiating.

Burial will be at the Holy Mary Mother of God Cemetery at 3121 Johnston St. in Lafayette with Military Graveside Rites by the U. S. Navy Honor Guard.

Visitation will be on Thursday, January 30, 2014, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and resume on Friday, January 31, 2014, at 9:00 AM until services. A rosary will be prayed in the funeral home on Thursday at 7:00 PM.

A native of Lafayette and a resident of New Iberia, Mrs. Birchett died on Sunday, January 26, 2014, at 9:25 PM at her residence.

She was Veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy. She was a member of the Martha's (Eucharistic Minister at both local hospitals) and was a Catechism Teacher at St. Peters Catholic Church. She was a member of the Harmony in the Spirit Prayer Group and Forever Young Dancers.

She is survived by her brother, Retired Honorable Judge C. Raymond Judice of Houston; her step-daughter, Wanda Birchett Monroe of Henderson, TX; her step-grandchildren, Cyndi Batten of Shreveport and Kathy Dressel of Lafayette; her step-great grandchildren, Allison Doerle, Jason Doerle, Rachel B. Hollingsworth and Jared Batten; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great great nieces and great great nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Alva Birchett; her parents, Rene and Latie Bertrand Judice; her brothers, Rene Judice, George Judice, Sr. and Ray Judice and her sisters, Shirley Rose Judice, Pearl French, Emmerite DeJean, Edna Cormier, Anna Lois Meyers, Sylvia D'Abadie and Gertrude Carroll.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Murphy Meyers, Jr., Joseph Meyers, John Meyers, Kurt Latiolais, Eric Louviere and Gregory Cenac.

Honorary pallbearers will be her brother, Retired Honorable Judge C. Raymond Judice, her nephews, Ronnie French, MD and Bobby Andrews and great nephews, Kevin Andrews, John Andrews, Michael Louviere and Travis Louviere.

The family would like to express their special thanks to Kenneth Ritter, Jr. MD and Staff, the Loving Staff of Azalea Estate, Heart of Hospice, Katie Hebert, Nurse Practitioner, her caregivers, Barbara Dominique, Jerrie Jacobs, Terri Francis and Joyce Linzer and especially her loving nieces and caregivers, Bettie Louviere, Lettie Latiolais, Jane Andrews and her loving great nieces, Bridget Louviere and Erika Richard.
