Alexander Green Puryear was the son of Samuel Washington Puryear and Susan O. Hudson Puryear of Limestone County, Alabama. His parents had married in Roane Co, TN on 7 February 1833.

Alexander Green PURYEAR married Nancy L. Weatherford in Limestone County, Alabama on 21 November 1860.
They were the parents of seven children:
1. Thomas Samuel PURYEAR: 1862-1949
2. Susan Ann PURYEAR: 1864-1949
3. John Allen PURYEAR: 1866-1920
4. Louisa PURYEAR: 1968-1968
5. James C. PURYEAR: 1869-1946
6. Henry Harris PURYEAR: 1873-1968
7. Mary Clementine PURYEAR: 1880-1957

Alexander served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War as a Private in Co I, 54th Alabama Infantry Regiment.

OBITUARY OF ALEXANDER GREEN PURYEAR

AGED CITIZEN DIED IN ELM CREEK COMMUNITY
Tuesday evening about 8 o'clock A. G. Puryear died at the home of his son T. S. Puryear, in the Elm Creek community, in the 83rd year of his life. He had been in feeble health for some years, some ten years, and recently was quite feeble.

The funeral was held this afternoon at McWright Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Graham McMurray of this city at 2:30 O'clock.

This aged citizen came to Hunt County from Limestone County, Alabama, more than 20 years ago, and having lost his wife in 1902, has made his home with his children who are T. S. of Elm Creek, J. A., of Neal Springs, Arkansas; J. C. of Dallas; C. O. of Mabank; H. H. of Bisbee, Arizona; Mrs R. W. Shannon of Anson; Mrs. Richard Boswell of Dallas; and Mrs. R. A. Terry of Greenville.

He leaves two half-brothers, Ed. F. of Athens, Alabama; and Billie of Roaan, TX.

He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, and he has been a member of the Christian church for many years.
