The extended Ward family came from farmland near Mitchell, Ontario, in a 4-unit wagon train. They arrived in Marcus, Iowa, on August 28, 1871.
Mary married David Gowan in 1902. They were the parents of 3 children, Lyle W., Georgina Maude, and Winifred Marie.
Mary passed away on May 24, 1918, in Cheokee County, Iowa, during the flu epidemic, at age 51. Her husband, David, of Cleghorn, Cherokee County, Iowa, then married Sadie Alvina Barr, Mary's 1st cousin, who raised the 3 children.
