SPEARVILLE -- Anthony B. Ackerman, 82, died May 3, 1996, at Trinity Manor, Dodge City. Born July 14, 1913, near Spearville, he was the son of John and Frances (Chalk) Ackerman. He married Magdalen Schawe on May 12, 1936, at Windthorst. A lifetime Spearville area resident, he was a farmer and stockman. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Spearville, and the Knights of Columbus Council 2462, Windthorst. Survivors include: his wife, Magdalen, Spearville; four sons, Steve, Spearville, Victor, Dodge City, Denis, Arvada, Colo., and Robert, Sachse, Tex.; three daughters, Sister Karen Ackerman, Dodge City, Vera Dick, Abilene, and Doris Waldron, Ulysses; a brother, John, Spearville; a sister, Sister Perpetua, Wichita; 14 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; three step-great-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. The funeral mass was Monday, May 6, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, with Bishop Stanley G. Schlarman and Fathers Gerald Hammeke, Warren Stecklein, John Maes and John Strasser concelebrating. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Windthorst. The family suggests memorials to Trinity Manor or the Windthorst Cemetery Fund, both in care of Burkhart Funeral Chapel, Dodge City.
