Body of Shepard is Found in River
East Omaha Boy Drowned Last Week- Body Found On Iowa Side
The body of little 6-year-old Sherwood Shepard of East Omaha, who was drowned in the Missouri river three miles above Florence last week, was recovered Friday on the east bank of the river, on the Iowa side, nearly two miles from the place where he fell in. The boy had been visiting his aunt, Mrs. Arthur Breeder, living north of Florence, and ran away from home last Tuesday. He was never seen alive again.
The boy's parents live at Twenty-fifth and Avenue 1? East Omaha. For several days the river bank was thoroughly searched for the body of the missing boy without success. His body was found finally by a man whose name was not learned, and who telephoned the boy's people at once.
According to G. L. Shepard, the boy's father, the lad ran away from his aunt's home and went toward the river to play. He was seen to enter the water by two of his little cousins, who watched him sink in a whirlpool.
The body was brought to Council Bluffs and buried in the Crescent cemetery, about eight miles northeast of the city.
