Son of Morris & Sophina Hash Halsey. The "Halsey Genealogy" by Rufus Clinton Halsey gives the following information on James: "Jim Calloway Halsey, single. Buried in Cease Halsey Cem. Rock marker" (p. 7).

James was found dead in the road near his home not far from the Potato Creek Post Office. When last seen alive that day he was "under the influence of liquor." It is thought that he had died of exposure to the cold asleep in the road. His death occurred less than 2 months after his brother, Grimsley Halsey, had been shot to death (article in Richmond Dispatch March 31 1891).
