GREENSBORO - Mr. Billy Joe Murphy, 59, of Greensboro died Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.

A memorial service will be held 11a.m. Saturday, October 7, at Christ Community Church on Air Harbor Road. Burial will be private at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Billy grew up in Fayette County, Alabama and served his country with the Army National Guard. Mr. Murphy was a member of Christ Community Church and was employed with TeleData Services in Winston-Salem.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Mattie Bush Murphy and a daughter, Angela Murphy Rush.

He is survived by Janie Murphy, his wife of forty-one years; children, Lana Garner and husband, James of Beth Page, Tenn., Matt Murphy of the home, Nikki Rush of Belmont, and Kalyn Upchurch of the home; brother, Thomas Murphy of Stoneville; and grandchildren, Joseph "Clay" Johnston, Mallory Johnston, and Mary Blake Murphy.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may made to the Murphy Family Education Fund, c/o 5215 Bayberry Lane, Greensboro, N.C. 27455.
