Horace E. Ryan Taken By Death
Mentor Headlands, May 28-Horace E. Ryan, retired advertising executive and father of Mrs. L. A. Ohlemacher, her, died at the Olemacher home Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. He had been in poor health for several years.
A native of Ohio, Mr. Ryan, was born Feb. 2, 1862 at Hamilton. Prior to his retirement about five years ago, Mr. Ryan had lived for many years in Indana, and was associated for 50 years with L. S. Ayers and Company, a large mercantile establishment there. During the years he had resided in the Hoosier state, he had made his influence widely felt, and was one of the leaders in the organization of the Indiana Advertising club.
Besides his daughter, he is survived by his wife, the former Violet Thompson of Indianapolis, and a son Eugene F. Ryan of Long Beach, Cal.
His talent included a passion for music and a number of years ago he wrote lyrics and composed the music for a Christmas carol, "The Christ Child Is Born", which is sung annually at the Christ Church, Indiana, during the yuletide season.
Services for Mr. Ryan will be conducted at the Nixon Funeral Home, Painesville, Friday at 3 p.m. The Rev. Dayton B. Wright, rector of St. James' Episocpal Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
