Ray Fowkes
Ray D. "Tug" Fowkes, age 77, passed away Thursday, Feb. 8, 2001, at his home.
He was, born Feb. 9, 1923, in Starr, Utah, to Heber J. and Ruby Downs Fowkes. Ray married Elaine Wilson Sept. 23, 1944, in Starr. Their marriage was solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple, Apr. 6, 1963.
Ray was raised and educated in Nephi. He graduated from Juab High School and attended Weber State University. He lived in Brigham City, Tremonton, and in North Ogden for the past 40 years.
He is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints. Ray was a charter member of the Nephi Lions Club, President of the Ute Stampede, and President of the Bear River Cutter Racing Association. He liked boxing, horses, cutter racing, hunting and rodeos.
Surviving are his wife of North Ogden; two sons, Dennis L. Fowkes of Roy, and Kevin Heber (Brenda) Fowkes of Beaver Dam; two daughters, Margo R. (Fred) Treece of Gilbert, Arizona, and Teresa D. (Ron) Anderson of Layton; ten grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren; one brother, John W. Fowkes of Salt Lake City; three sisters, Mabel Kay of Mona, Melba Cowan of Layton, and Bessie Jones of Nephi. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Loren and Gerald, three sisters, lone, Donna, and Alice.
Funeral services were held Feb. 12, 2001, at the North Ogden LDS 2nd Ward Chapel. Interment in North Ogden Cemetery.
