Jim worked construction putting up buildings in Ainsworth, Nebraska worked in hay fields for a local rancher and helped with the canal from Merritt (NE.) Dam for Bushman Construction.
Jim entered the U.S. Army June 8, 1966. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served one year and three days in Vietnam. He received several medals and was honorably discharged in on June 7, 1972. After his discharge from the military, Jim move to Grand Island, Nebraska and worked various jobs.
Jim was united in marriage to Leolla Lautenschlager on March 31, 1973 in Palmer, Nebraska.
After getting married he started working for Hooker Brothers in May 1973 until his retirement in 2008.
Jim enjoyed Nascar, boxing, cage fighting and football. In the last couple of years he enjoyed making wood signs for people and enjoyed antique shopping. He was real proud of his antique wagons, lamps and lanterns. He also loved reading westerns
Jim was a member of the American Legion, Long Pine, Nebraska and a lifetime member of the Grand Island (NE.) VFW.
Jim is survived by: wife, Leolla Davis of St. Libory, Nebraska; son, Shane Davis of Palmer, Nebraska; friends, Jan, Jake & Grace Stromberg of Palmer, Nebraska; father, Elwin Davis of Long Pine, Nebraska; five sisters-in-law; five brothers-in-law; a host of family and friends and his dog, Banjo.
Jim is preceded in death by: mother, LaVonne Joyce "Bonnie" Davis and infant sister, Neta Mary Davis.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, Palmer, Nebraska. The Reverend Thomas Clark officiated.
Jim will be cremated after the funeral and inurnment will take place at a later date.
