He was born in Pickford on Sept. 1, 1938, and moved to the Flint area in 1961.
He graduated from Pickford High School in 1956 and served with the U. S. Army for two years before working two years for Sault Savings Bank, 1959-1961.
He graduated from the American School of Banking in 1968 and in 1991 he retired as vice president of internal operations from NBD-Genesee Bank after 30 years with the firm.
He was a member of the Spring Meadows Country Club and was financial director of the Fair Winds Girl Scout Council of Flint.
He is survived by his wife, the former Phyllis Postula, whom he married in Goetzville on March 3, 1962; and two grandchildren.
Also surviving are two sisters, Shelva Bassett of Swartz Creek and Cathy Wayland of Traverse City; and two brothers, Arvid Ames of Mt. Morris and Robert Ames of Flint.
Visiting hours Monday at Reamer Funeral Home in Pickford are from 4 until 9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Funeral Home with Fr. Michael Steber and Rev. Frank Mease officiating. Burial will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Goetzville.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
