Arie van Dam was born in June 1846 in the village of Stolwijk, in the eastern part of the Dutch southwestern province Zuid-Holland, Netherlands, son of Thijs van Dam (1809 Ouderkerk aan den IJssel - 1858 Stolwijk) and Aaltje Baas (1811 Stolwijk - 1869 Stolwijk), named for his maternal grandfather Arie Ariense Baas.

Arie van Dam emigrated in 1873 (or 1876) to the USA.

In 1880 the 34 years aged single servant-laborer Arie Vandam lived in Thornton [Township], just south of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois at the home of farmer John Ravensloot (67 y, born in the Netherlands), his wife Turnija (69, Netherlands) and their daughter Margrette (37, Netherlands).

Arie Van Dam married on 10 April 1882 in Cook County, Illinois at the age of 35 years to the ten years older Geertrui Anker, who was born in Stolwijk too.

In June 1900 farmer Arie Vandam (54, born in June 1846 in Holland, immigrated in 1873) and his wife Gertrueid (63, November 1837, Holland, immigrated in 1848) lived at an own home in the Dutch truck farmers settlement South Holland, just south of Chicago, Thornton Township, Cook County, Illinois.

In 1910 Arie Vandam (64, immigrated in 1876) and his wife Gertie (73, immigrated in 1850) lived still in Thornton [Township], Cook County, Illinois.

In 1920 Arie Vandam (73, immigrated in 1873) and his wife Gertrude (83, immigrated in 1851) lived still in Thornton [Township], Cook County, Illinois.

Gertrude Van Dam died in June 1920 in South Holland, Cook County, Illinois at the age of 83 years. Retired farmer Arie Van Dam, son of Mattys Van Dam died in November 1921 also in South Holland, at the age of 74 years.

Arie and Gertrude didn't have children.
