MRS. MARY LaJOIE, 86, STUTSMAN COUNTY PIONEER, DIES WEDNESDAY

Mrs. Mary LaJoie, 86, Stutsman County pioneer, died at Trinity Hospital Wednesday morning after being a patient there for the past four and one half years.

Mrs. LaJoie was born March 12, 1872, at Rosiere, Wisconsin, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Villars. She came with her parents to North Dakota and settled with them on a farm at Montpelier in 1886.

Miss Mary Villars and Felix Nolet were married in 1890 in Jamestown and established their residence on a farm in Montpelier for one year after which they moved to Duluth, Minnesota, where Mr. Nolet was a street car conductor.

They were the parents of two children, John and Stella Nolet. Mr. Nolet died in 1894 at Duluth.

Mrs. Nolet was married to Felix LaJoie in 1897 at Duluth, and continued to reside there until 1906, when Mr. and Mrs. LaJoie came to Jamestown, bringing with them John and Stella Nolet and Rose LaJoie, daughter of Mr. LaJoie previous marriage. In Jamestown, they owned and operated the LaJoie Grocery Store at 2nd Avenue and 10th Street. After Mr. LaJoie's death in 1934, Mrs. LaJoie and her daughter continued to operate the grocery store until the death of Miss Nolet in March, 1954.

Mrs. LaJoie is survived by he son John Nolet, Zion, Illinois; and her stepdaughter, Mrs. Rose Paradise, Los Angeles, California; a sister, Mrs. Agnes Tardiff, Edmonds, Washington; a brother, Louis Villars, Green Bay, Wisconsin; one granddaughter, one grandson, and seven great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by two sisters and her daughter, Stella Nolet. Rosary and prayers for the dead will be recited tonight at 8 pm in the Daly-Peterson Funeral Chapel and Friday at 8 pm.

Requiem Mass is set for Saturday at 8:15 am at St. James Catholic Church with the burial at Calvary Cemetery. Daly-Peterson Funeral Home is in charge of all the arrangements.
