Michael Wayne Hoover, 48, of Waynesboro, went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 7, 2011 at his home with his family by his side.

He was born March 13, 1963 in Staunton to the late Roger J. Hoover and Eva Sue Varner.

He was employed most of his life in construction work and as a cook.

He entered the Army on March 4, 1981 with three years of honorable service. When he was discharged in February 9, 1984 he had earned the Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Expert Qualification Badge and the Expert Qualification Badge in Weapons. While in the Army he attended Ranger School and was a Motor Transport Operator.

He loved fishing, cooking, working outside in the yard, cars, drawing and helping others.

In addition to his father he was preceded in death by a sister, Melissa Dawn Hoover; step-father, Hubert Crenshaw; grandfather, Fay Matthew Varner and grandmother, Iva B. Varner.

He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Donna Hoover, whom he married October 22, 1988; a daughter, Michelle Dawn Hoover of Waynesboro and his loving granddaughter, Naomi Grace Hoover; two brothers, David Lee Hoover of Staunton and James Edward Hoover of San Antonio, TX.

Mike was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a son that loved his mother with all his heart. He gave up so much so his wife, daughter and granddaughter could have everything they needed or wanted. He saw the good in everyone and would do everything in his power to help anyone. He was a giving, loving, fun person and we will miss you and always love you.
In keeping with his wishes all services will be private.
