Manuel H. Alves, 71, of Clifton St, Old Lyme, died Sunday, (January 11, 2004) at his residence.

Mr. Alves was born on June 10, 1932 in Santa Cruz, Madeira Island, Portugal the son of Henry and Rosa Jesus Alves. He married Maria Sousa in Portugal on June 1, 1961. He was employed as a mason for most of his life. He retired from Abbot Ball Bearing in June of 1994 after 17 years of employment.

Mr. Alves is survived by his loving wife, two sons, Licinio Alves of Portsmouth, RI and Goldino Alves of South Windsor; three sisters, Beatrice Vieira of Brasil, Filomenia Alves of Old Lyme, Laurinda Coelho of South Africa, and three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, January 15 at 11 a.m. in Christ the King Church in Old Lyme. Burial will follow in Duck River Cemetery. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, January 14, from 6-8 p.m. in Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, 13 Beckwith Ln., Old Lyme, CT, 06371.
