During the trip down the rapids of the Columbia River, the boat carrying William Glenn Parker his nephew Edward Bates Applegate, Edward's cousin Warren Applegate, and family friend Alexander "Uncle Mac"McClellen, capsized in the rapids near The Dalles. William was able to swim to safety, the other's drowned and their bodies were never found. ref: OR Pioneers
