Sylvanus Davis Presque Isle 91. Died 9-28-1996 at a Presque Isle health care facility. He was born 6-14-1905 in Caribou, the son of James and Rosinia (Stevens) Davis. After graduating from Presque Isle hospital and attending the Aroostook Normal School for 1 year, he was employed by the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad and later the Border Patrol until 1943. He was a 29 year member of the Presque Isle Police Dept., retiring in 1974. Mr. Davis was a member of Trinity Lodge No.130 AF&AM for more than 50 years. St. Aldemar Commandery of Houlton, Anah Temple Shrine of Bangor and Aroostook Shrine Club. He was a longtime member of the Presque Isle Fire Dept., a life member of the Presque Isle Rod and Gun Club, and the Presque Isle Fish and Game Club. A member of the Aroostook Campers Association, he enjoyed several years of camping during his retirement. He is survived by his wife, Gertrude (Holmes) Davis of Presque Isle, a daughter and her husband, Joan and Richard Searfoss of Wilmington MA., 2 grandsons, Steven Davis and his wife Karen of Rockland and James Davis of Portland, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Gary Davis. 3 sisters, Virginia Pearl, Myra Kimball and Hazel Sproul. Burial at Fairmount cemetery.
