August was born to Wilhelm & Agusta (Klebs) Lück in West Prussia Germany, the oldest of seven children. His father arrived in the USA in 1883 and Gus joined him in 1885 followed by his mother and siblings in 1887. The name Lück was changed to Leeck except August changed his to Lueck.
He married Ida Kowalsky on July 29th, 1897 at St.Matthews Lutheran Church. To this union are five known children:
