Son of George W. Thompson and Sarah Ann Blakesley. Born in Appanoose County, Iowa, although death certificate says California. Resident of Browns Park, Colorado, and friend of the Bassett family there. Annie Bassett is known as the "Queen of the Cattle Rustlers." E. B. "Longhorn" Thompson was in the cabin when the notorious Tom Horn murdered the cowboy Isam Dart in 1900.

Married Armida Boomer. They had one son, Lyman B. Thompson and a daughter Anna Mae.
