Amanda Bell was the youngest of 11 children born to Richard Ralsey Bell and Sarah Crooks.

Born in OH, she was living with her parents, Richard Bell, 55, born PA, and Sara Bell, 49, born PA, and her older siblings, Margaret Bell, 23, born PA; John Bell, 22, born PA; Moses Bell, 17, born OH; Mary J. Bell, 15, born OH; James Bell, 13, born OH; Sarah Bell, 11, born OH; Martha Bell, 9, born OH. Her father was a farmer whose real estate was valued at $7,100 and his personal property at $1,090.

In 1870, Amanda was 16 and still living with her parents and 3 older siblings in Madison Twp., Guernsey Co., OH. Her father was a farmer whose real estate was valued at $9,000 and his personal property at $1,000. Her mother was keeping house.

Amanda and William Charles Boyd, between 1885 and 1900, had 4 boys, William, Thomas, James and Richard. They lived in Fairview, Guernsey Co. in 1900, but moved to Harrison Twp., Carroll Co., OH, before 1910. Her husband farmed all his life. He died in 1925.
