Jack Clark passed away peacefully in the early morning of November 5, 2005 at the Hospice House in Monterey. He was 93 years old. He was born September 27, 1912 in Chicago, Illinois. He worked in the hotel and film industries and lived there until entering the military in 1942. He loved his country and was very proud of his service in the United States Army during World War II. He met and fell in love with Betty Houlihan while working together at the Blackstone Hotel in Chicago in 1938. They were married in 1943 and moved to southern California in 1948. They lived in Culver City for 24 years, raising a family while he worked for a home delivery bakery company and in real estate. In 1972 they moved to Carmel Valley and owned and operated Canary Cottages (now the Acacia Lodge) in Carmel Valley Village and, later, the Sweater Corner in downtown Carmel. He was an active member of the Carmel Valley Kiwanis and he loved to go bowling and play poker with family and friends. He is dearly missed by his wife of 62 years, Betty Clark., the love of his life. He also is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Jeff Hansman of Carmel Valley; his son, Rick Clark of Carmel; his 3 grandchildren, Amber Passno of Pacific Grove, Damon Clark of Sacramento and Adam Hansman of Sacramento and his 3 great grandchildren, Amber Morgan Clark of Orange, California and Nathan and Dylan Passno of Pacific Grove who, for only too brief a time, got to know and love their Grampa Jack. He is also greatly missed by all of his extended family and friends. The family has gathered together to honor his memory and celebrate his life and he will be inurned in a U. S. Military Veterans' cemetery. He loved his cats and dogs over the years and the family requests that any contributions in his name be made to the SPCA of Monterey County.
