MRS. GERTRUDE AVARD
ROME -- Mrs. Gertrude A. Avard, 65, 124 S. Crescent Dr., died April 4, 1959, after a long illness.
She was born Oct 29, 1893 in Walesville, daughter of Albert and Marion Bruce Clemens. On Feb 1, 1919, in Rome, she was married to Jessie S. Avard, who died in 1947.
Mrs. Avard resided in Verona before moving to Rome 20 years ago. She had previously lived in Ava and Holland Patent, where she attended school. She was a member of the Verona Methodist Church.
She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Howard L. Davis, Potsdam; a son, Earl A., Rome; four sisters, Mrs. William Reed, Boonville; Mrs. Everett Stisser, Schenectady; Mrs. Vernon Emerick, Andover, Mass., and Miss Dora Clemens, New York City; a brother, DeForest F. Clemens, Rome.
The funeral will be at 2 Tuesday from the Mae E. Strong Funeral Home, the Rev. John J. Baker, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. David N. Boswell, retired, officiating. Burial will be in Verona Cemetery.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 today and tomorrow.
