OBITUARY :
WAYNESBORO MAN IS KILLED - Staunton, Va. - A Waynesboro man was killed and another was critically injured in a one-car accident Sunday at 8:40 a.m. on Interstate 81 three miles north of Staunton.

CHARLES B. SNOWBERGER, 73, of 141 S. Broad St., Waynesboro, was pronounced dead on arrival at King's Daughters Hospital in Staunton, according to Virginia State Police.

Snowberger was a passenger in a southbound 1978 Chevrolet driven by Erdman "Steve" Cromwell, 80, of 344 Geiser Ave., which ran off the right shoulder of the interstate. Police said the car went up an embankment in the medium strip.

"The accident is still being investigated. It appears the driver fell asleep, but we aren't sure about that", a Virginia state trooper in Staunton said this morning.

Cromwell was listed in critical condition in the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Va., this morning.

Friends of the two men said Cromwell was driving to the Orlando area to check on orange groves he owns, and Snowberger was riding along to visit retired Landis Tool Co. friends in the Daytona area.

Snowberger was born in Waynesboro, Dec. 21, 1910, son of the late Charles R. and Maude (Gilbert) Snowberger. All of his life was lived in Waynesboro.

He and his wife were married in September 1932, and had lived at the present residence for the past 40 years.

Prior to his retirement in 1973, he was employed at Landis Tool Co. for 40 years. He last worked in the office of the engineering department.

Following retirement he worked part-time at the Freeman Shoe Outlet Store for several years.

He was a member of Acacia Lodge No. 586, F & AM; the Harrisburg Consistory, the Knights of Pythias, the National AARP and a social member of the American Legion.

In addition to his wife, Mrs. Isadore M. (Sites) Snowberger, he is survived by a son, Ronald G. Snowberger, Wayne Heights, two grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; a sister and a brother; Mrs. Margaret Bingaman and Herman Snowberger, both of Waynesboro.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 in the Grove Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald Moul officiating. Burial will be in the Harbaugh Church Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Masonic Rites will be conducted by members of Acacia Lodge at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
