MRS. CATHERINE SHARPE
Died at the Home of Her Daughter This Morning
Mrs. Catherine Sharpe, widow of the late John Sharpe, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida M. Hitchcock on Pleasant street this morning in the 79th year of her age. She was a native of Bennington, having been born here February 2, 1828. Death was caused by paralysis.
The maiden name of the deceased was Catherine A. Sibley and she lived in Bennington and vicinity until her marriage. On her wedding day she left on the first passenger train out of Bennington for California where her husband owned a large ranch. He died at Oakland in 1868. After her husband's death, Mrs. Sharpe returned to Bennington and after her daughter's marriage lived with her at the different places at which Mr. Hitchcock, who was a Methodist clergyman, was stationed.
After Mr. Hitchcock's death the widow and family moved to Bennington in July last from South Shaftsbury and have since resided on Pleasant street where the funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.
Early in life Mrs. Sharpe joined the Methodist church. She was a woman of many sterling qualities and had a large number of friends in Bennington and neighboring towns who will learn of her death with sincere regret. She is survived by her daughter and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Secor of Ilion, N.Y., and Mrs. L.C. Rand of North Adams.

Mrs. Catherine Sharpe, an old resident of the village, died yesterday after a long illness from the effects of a paralytic stroke. The deceased, who was Miss Catherine A. Sibley, was the widow of John Sharpe, who died in California in 1868. Mrs. Sharpe was born in Bennington in 1828 and the greater part of her life had been passed in the town. she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ida M. Hitchcock; and two sisters. The funeral will be held at 1 o'clcok tomorrow afternoon. Rev. Dr. Charles W. Rowley officiating.
