James Cameron was described in two books:

"The Commemorative Biographical Record of the Counties of Harrison and Carroll, Ohio, Containing Biographical Sketches of Prominent and Representative Citizens, and of Many of the Early Settled Families"

and

"The History of Carroll and Harrison Counties, Ohio, Volume 2".

Both books say he was born 30 May 1799, and that he was the child of Thomas Cameron and Jane Maxwell. The first book says that in about 1823 he purchased a farm in Washington Township, Carroll, with his wife where he remained until 1840. It was at this time he was elected on the democratic ticket to treasurer, and he then removed to Carrollton, where he remained for the rest of his life.

He was born in Brooke County, Virginia which now a part of West Virginia.

He married Jane Scott 16 Jan 1822 in Brooke County, Virginia, now West Virginia.

After her death he married Eliza Sloan (Married name Eliza Sinclair) 14 Feb 1849 Carroll County, Ohio.

His will indicates that he had no heirs outside of his siblings and nieces and nephews. He willed money or personal property to the following-
1. His brother Thomas
2. James Cameron son of Thomas Cameron
3. Rebecca McClain daughter of Mary McClain (no relation given, although his sister Mary is said to have married a William McClean)

He asked to be buried next to his first wife Jane.

Interestingly enough, the court reached out to other relatives to let them know his will was going to probate, in case they claimed to have a more modern version of the will. The court contacted the following people (relation researched by me)

1. Noah Westfall of Canton OH (nephew, son Sarah Cameron)
2. Thomas Cameron (brother?)
3. Levi Westfall (Nephew, son of Sarah Cameron)
4. Sarah Boyd (Niece, daughter of Sarah Cameron)
5. Mary E Long (Potentially the Mary Cameron born Abt 1839/1840 Virginia, daughter of Joseph Cameron born 1807, and wife of David H Long, but further research would be required. James is said to have had a brother Joseph but no other information about him other than the name is known. Help appreciated.)
6. Matilda Westfall (Niece, daughter of Sarah Cameron)
7. Harriet Dunlavy (Niece, daughter of Sarah Cameron)

His death record says he passed away 1 May 1891 in Carroll County, Ohio at age 91 years 11 months 29 days, which is a May 2 1799 birth date.
