David Woodrow Cressel, 57, of Front Royal, Virginia, died Saturday, January 11, 2014, in the Winchester Medical Center.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 2:00 p.m. at Maddox Funeral Home conducted by Elder Gary Utz. Burial will follow in Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Cressel was born March 30, 1956, in Staunton, Virginia, son of the late Robert Woodrow and Lula Mae Moore Cressel. He was married to the late Carolyn Sue Henry Cressel.
Mr. Cressel was a retired Lieutenant with the Virginia Department of Corrections. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 829 of Front Royal and a past member of the Front Royal Fire Department and Rescue Squad. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving are a son Michael Cressel of Front Royal; a daughter April Winkelmann of Leesburg; a sister Margaret Breeden of Front Royal; and two grandchildren Leah Winkelmann and Alex Winkelmann.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Jenkins, Nathan Hast, Brian Lehew, Daniel DeRito, Eddie Henry, and Jeff Winkelmann.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brayden Eckert and John Landis.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
