Carl Jacobs, age 94, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away Wednesday, July 22, 1987, in Bountiful, Utah, at the home of his daughter, Virginia Hatton.
Born December 16, 1892, in Aleppo, Syria, Turkey to Dr. Armenog Dikran ShilHagopian and Osanna Bagdovan of the Armenian race. After the death of his parents, he came to American, anglicized his native name of Kohren Armenog ShilHagopian to Carl Jacobs and became an American citizen. He attended the LDS High School and the U of U. He was a linguist speaking five languages and translated the booklet, "The Three Degrees Of Glory," into the Turkish language for the Armenian saints. He was a faithful missionary of [The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints] with a burning testimony of the gospel; he completed much temple work for his ancestors. He married Mary Elizabeth Naillon, July 25, 1921, in the Salt Lake Temple enjoying a happy marriage of 66 years. A resident of Utah for 70 years. Self-employed as an interior decorator. Active high priest in the Cannon 6th Ward, Cannon Stake.
Survived by: his wife, Mary; daughters residing in Utah, Virginia Hatton, Bountiful; Dorothy Davey, Salt Lake City; Elaine Bons, Centerville; and Maxine Garrett, of Minneaplois, Minn.; two sons, Melvin Jacobs, West Valley City; and Duane Jacobs, Farmington; 44 grandchildren; 56 great-grandchildren. Son, Heber Carl Jacobs, preceded him in death as did a brother, Joseph and twin sisters, Mary and Mary. Also surviving are: two brothers, Enos Jacobs, Salt Lake City; and Henry Jacobs, of Erda, Utah.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday July 28th at the Cannon Stake Center, 934 Fremont Avenue. Friends may call at the Cannon Stake Center Monday, July 27th between 6-8 p.m. and one hour prior to services. Interment: Spanish Fork, Utah.
