Hudson Lake Brugh was the son of Jacob Charles Brugh and Levina (Shanks) Brugh. Hudson was first married to America Jane Stevens on 16 July 1888. That marriage produced four sons. They were William Henry Brugh, Seldon Robert Brugh, Harry Lake Brugh & Houston Claude Brugh.
After Hudson and America Jane divorced, he married Loula Eugenia Payne on 11 August 1899. This marriage produced no children. Hudson died in a train wreck on 27 November 1900, on his first run as brakeman for the Clinch Valley Division of the Norfolk & Western Railroad.
