Flora "Helen" (Knowles) Higley, 89, of Cummings, KS, passed away Sunday, January 12, 2014 after a brief stay at the Atchison Senior Village with her family beside her.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, January 16, 2014 at the First Christian Church, Atchison, KS with Rev. Lee Hendon, officiating. Burial will follow in the Pardee Cemetery.

Helen Knowles was born June 7, 1924, in Atchison, KS, the second daughter of Jewell "Ross" and Lorene M. (Case) Knowles. Helen graduated from Atchison High School in May 1942 and had attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Mrs. Higley worked in El Paso Tx while Warren was stationed there during World War II. While Mr. Higley was overseas she lived at home with her parents and worked at Montgomery Wards in the Mail order dept. Helen was a homemaker and farm wife having also worked at the Horton Garment Factory in Atchison. She was a member of the Atchison First Christian Church and a former member of the Cummings Christian Church where she had served as Sunday School teacher for 15 years and was a writer and editor of the church newsletter for several years.. Helen had served with the Ladies Aid of the church and had also been a deaconess and youth director for several years. Helen was also a member of the Atchison Shepherd Center. Her hobby was keeping a beautiful yard..

Helen and Warren Higley were married on October 17, 1942 in Kansas City, Kansas. Warren survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a son, Alan (Cathy) Higley of Cummings; daughter, Bonnie (Kent) Rosdahl of Topeka, KS; two sisters, Velma Knowles and Dorothy Thompson, both of Atchison; five grandchildren, Candice Moore, Tara Wilburn, Travis Higley, Luke Rosdahl and Adam Rosdahl; six great grandchildren. She loved the Lord and put her faith and trust and her life in his hands.
