He was born in Lucerne, Mo. He married Jean E. Dunkin in May 1947 in Missouri.
He was employed for more than five years as a mechanic and driver for the former Poole Transfer Co., Rock Island. The company was sold to Roadway Express. He continued working for the company and was named senior driver working out of the Rock Island and Springfield terminals until February 1985 due to disability. He was employed for more than 33 years.
He was a Boy Scout master and committeeman for Troop 151 at Wells School in East Moline.
Survivors include the widow; sons Robert Jr., Colona, Jack, Moline, James, Toulon and Richard, Hamilton, Ala., a daughter, Linda Barnett, Springfield, Mo., 12 grandchildren, a sister, Willa White, Newtown, Mo., and brothers Bill, Lucerne Mo., James, Kansas City, Mo., and Sam, Moline.
