Betty Jane Clark, 83, of 20623 Baird Ave., Meadville, died suddenly Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2007, at Reading Hospital and Medical Center. She and her husband were visiting friends in the Reading area. She was born in Meadville, July 18, 1924, a daughter of Frederick and Lea Mount Allen. She married Austin Millard Clark Sept. 27, 1947, and he survives. She was supervisor of housekeeping at Allegheny College and previously had worked at Talon Inc., The Richard Co., G.C. Murphy Co., F. W. Woolworth Co. and Mosbacher Jewelry Store. She was a 1945 graduate of Meadville High School. She was a lifetime member of Park Congregational Church and was honored for her Sunday school teaching. She was also a member of the Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary and the Hayfield Grange. She would have received her 60-year grange membership pin this month. She and her husband enjoyed traveling, having visited all 50 states. She will be greatly missed by her loving family and large circle of friends. She always thought of everyone else before herself. She was a very giving and beautiful lady. In addition to her husband, Austin, of 60 years, she is survived by two sisters-in-law, Joan Allen and Doris Allen, both of Meadville; her faithful friend and dog, Myrta; and several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Harold F. Allen, Robert K. Allen, George E. Allen, Frederick J. Allen and John Henry Allen; and three sisters, Nellie B. Holtzhauser, Eleanor K. Hussel and Mary L. Shoemaker. Calling hours are today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Robert W. Waid Funeral Home Inc., 581 Chestnut St., Meadville. The funeral service will follow at 8 p.m., with the Rev. John Bargar officiating. Following cremation, burial will be in Greendale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Fred Allen Scholarship Fund of Park Congregational Church, 1040 Washington St., Meadville, Pa. 16335; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
