Walter C. Barnes, son of Tom and Elvine Barnes, was born August 6, 1893 at Big Sandy, Tenn. and died May 12, 1950 at the age of 56 years, 9 months and 6 days at his home in McCracken.

In 1917, Walter was united in marriage to Clara Conklin of Brownell and to this union three children, one son and two daughters, were born.

He was employed by the Missouri Pacific railroad for eight years at different points in western Kansas as section foreman. Shortly after leaving the railroad he made his home with his brother, Troy at McCracken for 14 years. Both were engaged in farming until they retired in 1947.

On December 19, 1945, he was united in marriage to Viola Ellen (Green) Havlovitz and made his home in McCracken.

Walter was a member of the Methodist church.

For the last few years, Walter had been in failing health.

Survivors include his wife, Viola; his son, Earl of Springfield, Ore.; two daughters, Clydene Garrison and Lois Wineinger of Tribune; a sister Mrs Minnie Redmond of Big Sandy Tenn; four brothers, Troy, Freeman, and Carl Barnes of McCracken; and Zollie Barnes of Harrison, Ark. He is also survived by six grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church in McCracken Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. Glen Thompson in charge. He was assisted by the Rev. J.J. Krimmer pastor of the Assembly of God church. Burial was in the McCracken cemetery.
