Garth Edward Cowley passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

Garth was born April 17, 1929 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Frank Leslie and Vera Elizabeth Cowley. He graduated from Jordan High School in 1947.

He was married to Leona Jackson in the Salt Lake Temple on June 27, 1950.

He was an electrician by trade, but throughout his life he took many opportunities to serve others in many ways.

He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. His hobby was raising and showing his Morgan horses which he loved doing.

Garth and Leona are the parents of three children: Jani Laga (Scott), Rick Cowley (Jayne), and Robyn Selin (Dan), all of whom survive him. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, thirty-eight great-grandchildren, and one sister, Lael Lundeen (Russ). He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lynn and Kent.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 13, 2014 at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley Mortuary, 1007 West South Jordan Parkway (10600 South). Viewings will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the mortuary and again Monday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be in the Mountain View Memorial Estates Cemetery.
