BOWMAN, David J., Hollsopple, Conemaugh Township, was called home to be with his Lord, Feb. 2, 2009, at Country Manor Living, Jerome. Born Feb. 20, 1920, in Conemaugh Township, son of the late John I. and Rosa (Zimmerman) Bowman. Also preceded in death by beloved wife of 61 years, the former Dorothy Alice Lybarger; sisters, Alice Wagner, Ann Winters, Vera Horner and Edith Kimmel; and granddaughter, Sarah Bowman. Survived by sister, Violet Jones, Conemaugh Township. Also survived by these children, David Bowman, and wife, Mary, Houston, Texas; Robert, and wife, Ola, Theodore, Ala.; and Bonnie Taylor, and her husband, Chris, Springfield, Va. Loving pap to Ann, Paul and Craig, children of David and Mary; Justus, Jewel, Joy, Jamie, Joel and June, children of Robert and Ola; and Jill, Erin and Jared, children of Bonnie and Chris. Also great-pap to Taylor, Austin, Madison, Reagan, Michael and Mason. A member of the first graduating class of Conemaugh Township High School. David, a First Army, Third Armor "Spearhead" Division, 703rd Tank Destroyer Battalion, World War II, Battle of the Bulge veteran, was a member of Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, was committed to his Savior Jesus Christ and is remembered for his love of and walk with God; his work with fellow deacons; his tenure as a Sunday school teacher and superintendent; his 10 years on the church's cemetery commission; and his love for people. He enjoyed time with his family and friends, fellow church members and Soap Hollow neighbors, where he and Dorothy lived for more than five decades. An independent contractor, he was a plumber to Congressmen and commoner and considered by many "a man above reproach." He will be sadly missed by family, friends and all who crossed his path. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7, 2009, at Maple Spring Church of the Brethren, Pastor Ronald Beachley, officiating. Interment, Maple Spring Cemetery, with military rites by the Somerset County Honor Guard. Those that are interested may make donations to Conemaugh Regional Hospice, 315 Locust St., Johnstown, Pa. 15901, or Country Manor Living Activities Fund, P.O. Box 430, Jerome, Pa. 15937.
