Albert Ross Tomlinson
Albert Ross Tomlinson was born Oct. 23, 1847, in Madison County, Ohio.
At the age of nine years, with his parents, he moved to Washington County, Iowa, and when sixteen years old, with consent of his mother he enlisted in Co. E. 10th Iowa Infantry. Fiteenth Army Corps, where he served until the close of the Civil War, being a member of Sherman's March to the Sea. At the close of the Mr. Tomlinson returned to Iowa and on May 16th he was united in marriage to Florence J. Davis of Richmond, Iowa. To this union were born nine children, one son, Howard, dying in infancy, and one daughter, Mrs. Gertrude Dever of Samish, Washington, passing away April 20, 1921.
Mr. Tomlinson came from Iowa to Severy, Kansas, in May 1879, being one of the first settlers here and with the exception of three years spent in Wichita, had been a resident of this place until his deth July 9, 1923, at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 17 days.
During his residence in Severy, Mr. Tomlinson was a man whom everyone respected for his honesty and was considered a good citizen.
Mr. Tomlinson was the youngest and the last member of a family of 13, his brothers and sisters preceding him in death. He is survived by his wife, Florence J. Tomlinson of this city, and seven children, namely: Jesse B. Tomlinson of Ponca City, Oklahoma; Mrs. Nellie Eagan, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Joseph D. and Roy E., of Wichita, Kansas; Mrs. Iva Thetford, Solano, New Mexico; A.J. Tomlinson, Dallas, Texas and Denver C., of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. All of the children except the last named were present at the funeral which was held at the residence July 10, 1923, at 4 p.m. Interment was made in Twin Groves cemetery. - Severyite.
