Died, suddenly, of neuralgia of the heart, in Chicago, Ill., December 23, 1891, Katherine D. Munn, M.D., daughter of the late Col. Jacob and Isabella Derr, deceased, of Lewisburg, PA, in the 57th year of her age.
The announcement of the death of Dr. Munn was read with great sorrow by her many friends in Pennsylvania. Rarely endowed intellectually and socially, with an indomitable will and go ahead spirit, carrying sunshine and good cheer wherever she went. There was a magnetism in her personality which in look, touch and voice was irresistible and in a measure aided her great success as a physician.
She was twice married, her first husband being John Suydam, who was killed in the late civil war, by whom she had three children - two girls and one son, namely - Mrs. Belle M'Kelvy, Mrs. Maggie Jackson and John D. Suydam, all residents of Chicago. In '71 she was united in marriage to Charles Munn a prominent jeweler of that city. Their married life was of short duration, as he died in '75. After his death, she read medicine and graduated from Bennett Medical College in '82, and practiced medicine in that city to the time of her death.
Dr. Munn was buried Saturday the 26th ult., from Mrs. Jackson's home, 121 Laflin St. Interment at Forest Home, Chicago.
Three brothers, Dr. George Derr, dentist of Mifflintown, PA; Major Yentzer Derr of Chicago; Dr. Clarence Derr, dentist of Lewisburg, PA; and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Painter of Chehalis, Washington, survive her.
To to the afflicted relatives and friends we extend our heartfelt sympathy.
