The youngest of nine children, Dorothy was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Leopold and Charlotte Trevino on January 5, 1937. She attended Mechanic Arts High School in St. Paul and later attended a cosmetology school in Marysville, California, becoming a licensed beautician.
She married Charles Edward Flaherty on September 26, 1953, and began a new phase of her life as a mother of five children. She divorced Charles in 1965, and later married Dean Orvis Peoples on September 2, 1968. They remained together nearly 32 years, until Dean's death on August 22, 2000.
Dorothy was the consummate mother and housewife, enlisting the help of all five children in planting and harvesting vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, and tending small family farms at homes in Puyallup, Washington, and later in Meridian, Idaho. She helped ensure that the pantry, canning room and meat freezers were always full, and that there was always food on the table--great home cooked meals like only a mom can make.
She helped her husband Dean start and manage a home improvement business, Suppliers, Inc., for about 25 years.
Perhaps her greatest hobby and passion, one that she shared with Dean, was thoroughbred horse racing. Together they raised horses at their home in Meridian and raced them at tracks in Boise, Seattle, Portland, and Pleasanton, California, among other areas.
Dorothy is survived by her sisters, Ruth Wiesner, Stillwater, MN, and Ricky Church, of Roseville, MN; her children: Pamela Andrews, of North Platte, NE, Charles Peoples, of Meridian, ID, David Peoplesm of Soda Springs, ID, Terrance Peoples, Boise, ID, and Gail Youmans, of Lakewood, CO; 11 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Dean, and her siblings: Margaret, Rosie, Ollie, Paul, Art and Rudy.
Her family loved her dearly and she will remain in the "winner's circle" of their hearts forever.
To honor and celebrate Dorothy's life, the family has planned an open house reception at her home in Meridian in lieu of a service on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
