Elmira Ellen, or "Ella" was the 9th of 10 children born to Henry David and Hannah Jane (Yockey) Burkepile, on their farm in Tyrone Township, Perry County, Pennsylvania.

She married David Frank Worthington on November 8, 1888 at Chambersburg in Franklin County, Pennsylvania.

Their children were Harry Burkepile Worthington (1891-1964) and Robert Noll Worthington Sr (1893-1967). She and her husband were living with their younger son, Robert, at the time of her death.

The following obituary appeared in "The Charleroi Mail" on June 20, 1942:
Mrs. Elmira B. Worthington, aged 84 years, wife of David F. Worthington, formerly of Charleroi, died at the home of a son, Robert N. Worthington, of Charleroi, R.D., at 3:30 p.m. Friday, June 19, 1942, after a prolonged illness.  Friends are being received at the Worthington home where brief funeral services on Monday, June 22, at 1:30 p.m. will be followed by additional services in the Christ Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock, Rev. Meade A. Rugh will be in charge.  Interment in Monongahela cemetery. Lawrence B. Frye is funeral director.
