Betty Jean (Cooper) Young
TERRE HAUTE — Betty J. Young, 81, of Terre Haute. Ind., went to be with the Lord on Jan. 4, 2014. She was born on a houseboat on the Wabash River near Terre Haute on Oct. 8, 1932, to Paul A. and Dessie Cooper. She was a 1950 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School. She retired from Commercial Solvents Corp., that later changed to Mallinckrodt Corp., where she worked as a telephone switchboard operator.

She loved to go boating and water ski with husband Fred, a Tribune-Star employee of 50 years, and her children and friends. She loved to cook and visit with family and go to Florida in the winter with her husband.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frederick Young; and brother Paul A. Cooper Jr., a local musician.

She is survived by four loving children, Marsha (Young) Wenzel and husband Monte of Terre Haute, Patrick Young and wife Yvonne of Berne, Ind.; Christina (Young) Kane and husband Michael of Terre Haute; and Paul Young and wife Sharon of Charleston, S.C.; 13 grandchildren, Matthew Wenzel and wife Rendela of Plainfield, Ind.; Marcus Wenzel of Terre Haute; Christina (Miller) Wenzel of Terre Haute; Melissa Lemmons and husband Jeremiah of Terre Haute; Joshua Young of North Carolina; Jessica, Julia, Joel, Jonathan and Jennifer Young of Berne, Ind.; Skyler, Tyler and Abigail Kane of Terre Haute; and Andrew Young of Charleston, S.C.; eight great-grandchildren, Kayla and Ryan Wenzel; Logan, Maylee and Emilie Wenzel; Brayden, Gavin and Hudson Lemmons; niece Linda Jacobs and husband Jeff of Westerville, Ohio; nephew Ronald Cooper of Haines City, Fla.; nephew Paul Douglas Cooper of Bartow, Fla.; niece Dorothy (Young) Nelson and husband Brock of Wichita, Kan.; brother-in-law David Young and wife Helen of Grand Island, Neb.; and her beloved Siamese cat, "Ching."

She was a lifetime member of Bible Center Church of Terre Haute. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 10, 2014, at the Terre Haute Bible Center, with Pastors Patrick Young and Jerry Nash officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at Bible Center Church, 3219 E. Evans Ave., Terre Haute. Burial will be at Roselawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Corydon Bible Church c/o Patrick Young, Pastor, 406 E. Franklin St., Berne, IN 46711. A special thank-you to all the nurses of Heartland Hospice for their excellent care, and to all her caregivers.
