After the war, Thomas returned to the Tennessee Valley and married Fredonia E. Morrell on December 22, 1864. Thomas and Fredonia had three children Fredonia died on November 30, 1870, in Tennessee. She was buried in the Ewing Cemetery in Lincoln County, Tennessee. On January 6, 1876 in Madison County, Alabama Thomas married Frances Virginia Browning, daughter of Robert Jonothan and Frances (Biles) Browning. Thomas and Frances also had at least four children, Charles "Charlie, Margaret Pearl "Maggie" Thomas B., and an infant son. He died on April 5, 1907, in Giles County, Tennessee and was buried in the Bethany Cemetery in Giles County. Frances survived Thomas.
