John Patten STAGGERS, son of Jacob and Susannah (GROVE) STAGGERS, was born January 11, 1849, and departed this life on June 8, 1928, aged seventy-nine years, four months and twenty-seven days.

He was united in marriage to Esther EATON, of Scotland, and to this union were born three children—Ora E., of Owensburg; Cecil, of Scotland, and Mrs. Jessie LEE, of Shoals, who, with the wife survive. He also leaves ten grandchildren; and four half-sisters, Mrs. Nancy HEATON, of Lyons; Mrs. Lucy LYNN, of Park; Mrs. Malissa WRIGHT and Mrs. Rebecca WRIGHT, of Ohio, and two half-brothers, Brown THOMSON, of Washington, and William THOMSON, of Park. Two brothers and one half-sister preceded him to the Great Beyond. He was ill only a few days during his last sickness.

He united with the church at Bethany at an early age, and lived faithful unto the end.

He will be greatly missed by his relatives and many friends, especially the little children who spent many happy hours with him.

Funeral services were held at the M. E. church at Scotland. Rev. Perry KEY officiating. Interment was in the Scotland Cemetery.
