Betty J. Truitt, 67, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Saturday afternoon (May 25, 1996) at the Boone Hospital Center in Columbia, Missouri.

The daughter of Mattie Burghardt and adopted daughter of Ottis and Allie M. Robison Ownbey she was born October 20, 1928 in Kirksville, Missouri. On August 20, 1950 in Kirksville, Missouri she was united in marriage to Lyle Truitt who survives. Also surviving are her mother, Mattie Burghardt of Macon, Missouri; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lonna Truitt of Novinger, Missouri; one daughter, Bonnie Truitt of Kirksville, Missouri and two grandchildren, Michael Blake Truitt and Zachary Thomas Truitt both of Novinger, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her adopted father, Ottis Ownbey; one son, Junior on June 2, 1994 and one half-sister, Juanita Galdbach.

Betty was a life-long resident of the Novinger and Kirksville areas and received her education and graduated from the Kirksville High School in 1946. She then attended Northeast Missouri State Teachers College for a year.

She was employed as a secretary for the International Shoe Factory in Kirksville for a few years and was last employed with Hy-Vee in the bakery department for the past twenty-four years until her health failed.

Betty was a member of the Novinger Baptist Church in Novinger, Missouri and was also a member of the Anchor Rebekah Lodge #44 I.O.O.F. of Kirksville, Missouri.

She enjoyed cake decorating, needlework and had a great love for her family and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at two o'clock Wednesday (May 29, 1996) at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri. The Reverend Darrell Crooks and Chaplain Dennis Smith will officiate the service. Music will be provided by Dianthe Cable, organist and Carlyle Walker, soloist. The selections will be "One Day At A Time" and "How Great Thou Art".

Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery in Kirksville, Missouri.

Pallbearers will be Mike Helton, Roger Jones, Dale Laske, Bobby Gayle Clark, Kerry Contratto and Joe Holt.

Visitation is in progress at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville and the family will receive friends from six to eight o'clock this evening, Tuesday (May 28, 1996) in the chapel of the Travis-Noe Funeral Home.
