After his one room house caught fire when a gasoline stove exploded, Mr. Phipps helped his wife and they escaped with minor injuries. Remembering their pet terrier, Little Bit, was inside the house he ran back into the flames to find him. He carried the pet to safety.
Mr. Phipps died a few hours later from severe burns.
Survived by his widow, Mary Phipps; his mother, Mrs. Fannie Lieb (Jim) McGee; his father, Richard A. Phipps, and a brother, Raymond A. Phipps. All live in Houston.
